While my equally Christian friend found the book offensive, I loved the trip down memory lane. With well intended humor and a great deal of nostalgia, this book addresses the fundamentalist Christian lifestyle as it existed in the mid 20th century. For those of us who shared the Protestant childhood experience of this era, this book comes as a pleasant surprise, inviting readers to remember how things used to be. Who among us did not sing "Sunshine Mountain" at vacation Bible school, or struggle with the burning moral question, "Is bowling a sin?" Some aspects of the book are irreverent, and, if you are incapable of finding humor in traditions that no longer exist, this book may offend you. However, I emerged from the experience exhilarated and experiencing fondness for a simpler time that I had long since forgotten.

I have NEVER before laughed OUT LOUD in a bookstore until I picked up this book. I HAD to rush to the checkstand and buy it before they labelled me certifiable and carried me away. I honestly don't think I've ever read anything funnier in my life. I suppose the reason it so appeals to my sense of humor is that it is ALL true!
Who this book is for---anyone who remembers flannelgraphs of Jesus, Sunday School in the church basement and potlucks with lots of macaroni salad.
Who this book is NOT for---Anyone who had no emotional response whatsoever upon reading "Who this book is for." It's also not for those who fit the bill "who this book is for" BUT who take themselves way too seriously and have no sense of humor. The genius of this group of "born again" authors is that they manage to poke fun ad infinitum at the "if you're saved and you know it" generation with complete hysterical...I mean historical accuracy while maintaining a spirit of absolute fun and not an ounce of disrespect or guile. They're not poking fun at God. Their humor is aimed at us, the people who in our sincere attempts to love God, tend to say and do things that are quite frankly fertile ground for laughter.
Again a word of caution, do NOT buy this book if you are easily offended, especially by religious matters. On the other hand, BUY THIS BOOK NOW "if you're saved and you know it" and you want to grin about it until your mouth hurts.

I enjoyed this "book" (actually more of a coffee table or quick humor book) and there was much sweetness, familiarity and . . . what word should I use here . . . pain?

The style and memories seem to be mainly 1960's . . . but are familiar to me (I remember the 70's) because, well, they were still doing a lot of that 50's and 60's stuff in the 70's . . . or at least trying to.

Youth Group! Revivals! Rollerskating! God's Will! Rededication . . . .and my favorite . . . UNSPOKEN REQUEST!!! Good stuff.
Brought back very special memories of my childhood. I miss those times so very much! Why has so much changed in the church today?
For anyone that grew up in a "born again" household in the 50s, 60s, or 70s, this is a must read. I have read it from cover to cover a number of times, going back to it occasionally when I need to laugh, smile, or just remember a simpler time. LOVE this little book!
Sure brought back memories for those 50 and older. Was great reading. We enjoyed passing it around to others to read.
Absolutely hilarious. Bought extras as gifts.
This book accurately described how I was raised! The humor (tongue in cheek) was well done....I laughed out loud several times. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and finished it in 1 day!!
